Biochemically active films and coatings are prepd. by (a) dissolving gelatine in water; (b) cooling to ambient temp., forming a still fluid soln., (c) adding a biochemical substance (I) in aq. soln.; (d) opt. homogenising; (e) pouring or spraying the soln. onto a support; (f) drying to form an anisotropic gelatin film; (g) crosslinking by spraying or impregnating with a multifunctional agent (II); and opt. (h) stripping the film from the support. (I) is e.g. an enzyme, antibody, agglutinin, enzyme inhibitor, antigen etc. and these may be used in a variety of biochemical processes. The films have good mechanical strength and the coatings better adherence to a variety of substrates than do conventional materials.
|
