Chain with links hinged in two orthogonal planes - esp. for use as a conveyor in machine mfg. glass ampoules

A transmission- or conveyor-chain, made of metal and consisting of cross-shaped links (1) joined together by pairs of hinge-link plates (2,3) so each link is aligned in orthogonal planes with the adjacent links. Each link (1) pref. consists of a middle cube (4) fitted with a peg on both its top and bottom surfaces, and with a horizontal hole for a shaft forming two arms of the cross. Idling rollers can be mounted on either the peg and/or the ends of the shafts. The shafts may have an increased length for use with tongs so the chain can be used on a flowline or machine for mfg. glass ampoules. The chain is pref. driven by a pair of chain wheels located at 90 degrees to each other. Used esp. on a machine for mfg. glass ampoules, where the chain is hinged in two planes at 90 degrees to each other.
