The invention relates to a process for the production of flame-retardant materials from regenerated cellulose by precipitation from a solution of cellulose or cellulose derivatives with shaping. In this process, a mixture of compounds formed by reacting a phosphorus nitride chloride mixture of cyclic and/or linear oligomers of the formula (PNCl2)n, in which n is at least 3, with 2-butene-1,4-diol, 2-butyne-1,4-diol, 2,3-bisbromo-2-butene-1,4-diol or 2-methyl-2-phenyl-1,3-propanediol, is added to the solution.
