PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To aim at improvement in off-centering quality of a cathode-ray tube by enabling to correctly index a position of its center, even if a shape of a cross section of a supported portion of the cathode-ray tube has a tendency to deform. SOLUTION: The positioning method is used in a case where a position of a funnel 2 is indexed of its position by supporting a funnel outer circumference portion 2a of the cathode-ray tube 1. By grasping a deformation tendency of the funnel 2 of the position-indexed cathode-ray tube 1, an area having a small tendency to deform in the outer circumference portion of the funnel, is specified. The above funnel 2 is indexed with its position in a condition in which the supported position 14 is allotted within the limits of the specified area.
