Mobile sleeve coupling for ductile pipes subject to alternating longitudinal motion, esp. for district heating pipelines has an elastic ring seal inside it for sealing the annular space between the end of the fitted pipe and the sleeve. The end of the fitted pipe has a coating which is resistant to the medium conveyed in the pipeline. The coating has a low coefficient of friction wrt the ring seal/fitted pipe interface. The coating may be of PTFE, pref. 50 mu thick. The ring seal is EPR. In a variant, the coating is a 1 mm thick enamel, 30 mu thick hard varnish or 200 mu thick metal, pref. Cr. Reliable and leak-proof coupling of lengths of district heating pipes is achieved even when relatively abrupt and considerable variations in the temp. of the conveyed heating medium occur.
