Mushroom bed installation and cultivation process - has compost prepared in three stages at different temperatures, mixed with spawn and covered

Mushrooms are grown in a compost in air conditioned buildings. At the start of the cycle the compost is disposed in layers of section 2 metres square forming a long bed. Air at controlled temperature is led across transverse openings in a ventilation system in the ground below the superimposed layers of the bed. In the first stage the compost is composted at a temperature of 60 to 84 deg.C, in a second stage the temperature is 45 to 54 deg.C and in the third stage to 58-60 deg.C. It is then mixed with spawn and cooled at 24 deg.C. Casing material is applied to the surface and the temperature held between 24 to 28 deg.C, reducing to 20 to 22 deg.C.
