<p>1535278 Polyoxyalkylated esters; hot melt adhesives A E STANLEY MFG CO 26 Jan 1976 02833/76 Headings C3R C3P and C3M [Also in Division C2 Half esters of maleated alpha-olefins have the general formula in which R and R<SP>1</SP> are hydrocarbyl radicals, free from ethylenic unsaturation, d and e are integers from 1 to 5, f has an average value 2-1000 and M is a cation, e.g. of a metal, a nitrogen base or hydrogen. I may be prepared by reacting maleic anhydride with an alphaolefin, e.g. 1-dodecene, and further reacting the resultant maleated olefin with a polyoxyalkylene, e.g. a nonylphenoxy polyoxyethylene ethanol having an average of 30 polyoxyethylene units per molecule. A hot-melt adhesive may be prepared by polymerizing (a) a mixture of 190 g. of vinyl acetate and 10 g. of crotonic acid in the presence of 35 g. of I followed after 2 hours by (b) a second monomer charge of 50 g. vinyltoluene, 15 g. alphamethyl styrene and 6 g. of methacrylic acid. Other hot-melt adhesives are prepared by blending I with vinyl acetate-crotonic acid, styrene-acrylic acid or ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer.</p> |
