Exemplified aqueous compositions are coated on to rusty steel plate to bind the rust and comprise a acrylamide and acrylic acid or methylene bisacrylamide; pyridine or triethanolamine; acetylacetone; cerium nitrate, sulphate, acetylacetononate or other Ce<SP>3+</SP> compounds including a methacrylyl acetone polymer containing chelated cerium; Na sulphite, bisulphite, pyrosulphite, metabisulphite di- or tetrathionate or a corresponding K or NH 4 compound. The chelate polymer is prepared by reacting polymethacrylacetone with cerium acetate in dioxane.</p> |
