Podophyllotoxin of formula (I) and its compound of formula (II) are prepared. In the formulas, R1 and R2 are each H or lower alkoxy; R1+R2 is methylenedioxy; R3 is H or carboxyl-protecting gp.; R4 and R6 are each H or lower alkoxy; R5 is H or phenol- protecting gp.; R7, R8 and R9 are each lower alkyl or phenyl. (I) is used as intermediates to prepare antineoplastic agents.
