1535804 Bleaching composition PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 26 March 1976 [27 March 1975 (4)] 12234/76 Heading D1P Thickened peroxygen bleaching compositions having a viscosity of from 200-100,000 centipoises and articles comprise a particulate organic, substantially water-insoluble peroxygen compound, a thickening agent, a liquid carrier, preferably an acidifying agent to maintain the pH of the composition in the acidic range, and optionally a metal chelating agent to maintain the composition free of heavy metal cations. The peroxygen compound is preferably a diperoxy acid e.g. diperazelaic acid, diperbrassylic acid, dipersebacic acid or diperisophthalic acid, though monoperoxy acids and peroxides are mentioned. The thickening agent may be organic or inorganic and may be a starch or modified starch, a cellulose derivative, a synthetic polymer e.g. polyacrylamide or a carboxylated vinyl polymer, a proteinaceous material, a water-soluble gum, a colloidal or pyrogenic silica, a synthetic Laponite (R.T.M.) or smectite clay, the latter also having the property of conferring softening and antistatic benefits. The acidifying agent preferably maintains the composition pH in the range 4-6 and may be sodium or potassium dihydrogen phosphate, hydrochloric or sulphuric acid or acetic, tartaric acid or citric acid. The liquid carrier is preferably water. The chelating agent is preferably EDTA or nitrilotriacetic acid. The composition may further contain a perfume material. The articles comprise the composition in releasable combination with a dispensing means e.g. a pouch of flexible perforated or perforatable plastics sheet, which may be comingled with e.g. damp fabric in a tumbler dryer or may be added directly to a laundry bath. |
