<p>1535691 Masking compositions GULF & WESTERN INDUSTRIES Inc 7 July 1977 [30 July 1976] 24602/77 Heading C3V A masking composition suitable for use in preventing the deposition of a coating material on a predetermined portion of a substrate comprises a binder vehicle having dispersed therein a soled oxidizing agent which is capable of oxidizing said coating material and a solid inhibitor in an amount sufficient to control the oxidation of said coating material. Specified binder vehicles comprise an organic liquid or water and a resinous material, e.g. a cellulose polymer, or an acrylic resin such as an acrylic ester resin. The coating material may be a metal or metal alloy, e.g. aluminium, in which case preferred oxidizing agents are zirconium oxide, ferric oxide, titanium sesquioxide, nickelous oxide or titanium dioxide. Suitable inhibitors are tungsten, molybdenum, chromium, cobalt and nickel. The composition may also comprise an inert solid diluent material, e.g. an oxide of a rare earth metal or refractory metal, or aluminium oxide.</p> |
