An aqueous slurry composition which is curable at saturated steam pressure and temperature of 360 DEG to 400 DEG F to form a hard porous mass suitable for containing dissolved acetylene gas solutions, comprising lime, crystalline silica, and a thickening agent selected from the group consisting of (a) polyethylene oxide, (b) amorphous glassy silica, (c) a soluble salt of phosphate and a soluble salt of calcium and (d) a soluble salt of phosphate and a neutralizing acid.
