<p>The charging system for individual accumulators or banks of such is intended to provide optimum charging, avoiding damage to the batteries and achieving the charge in the minimum time. The charging time, during which the full charging voltage is applied across the batteries is determined and controlled by an auxiliary voltage charging a capacitor to some value set automatically within fixed limits. This auxiliary voltage is always less than the charging level. The main charging voltage is removed using a relay circuit when its level falls below that of the capacitor, this being supplied from a constant current, variable frequency pulsed source.</p> |
