A flame cutting machine for cutting large steel ingots or scrapped castings consists of a frame mounted on a base supported on wheels which run on rails, and held upright by the overhead guide rail. An arm is mounted on a guide which can slide up or down the vertical column and also rotate in the horizontal plane. The flame tube is mounted on an arm so that it can slide longitudinally. The arm is mounted on the block so that it can rotate about the vertical axis and the block can move along the arm. This dual freedom of movement enabled the machine to cut blocks of metal in any direction no matter how the block is positioned w.r.t. the machine.
