Water pump for irrigation purposes - is driven by water wheel with pivoting blades to make self-contained unit

The wheel has a shaft with a central hub from which radial arms project. Each arm carries a blade (1) which can pivot about the arm. The blade is perpendicular to the current of water on the forward movement and turns to lie parallel to the current so as to offer no resistance on the return movement. The wheel is connected by a train of gears to a pump (2) which draws water (4) from source and delivers it (3) to a using network. The water can be drawn from the stream which propels the wheel. The unit is suitable for local irrigation. It requires no external source of energy and is easily maintained.
