A rotary engine consists of a cylindrical rotor (1) mounted on a shaft (2) which runs in a bore in the housing (3). One end of the housing (3) forms a bearing (4b) for the shaft (2) whilst the other end is fitted with a cover plate (4a). The rotor (1) has a transverse bore which receives a piston (7). A peg (9) projecting from the end cover (4a) engages a slot (8) cut in the piston (7). As the rotor rotates (1) the restraint imposed on the piston (7) by the peg (9) causes the piston (7) to oscillate in the bore of the rotor (1). This oscillation of the piston (7) enables the machine to be used as a pump, compressor or as an engine.
|
