The self-adhesive label (1) has a layer (11) which can be printed and/or written on and consists of cellulose-containing or textile material and a bonding layer (13) which is soluble in water. The layer (11) which can be printed on has a fibre structure which is soluble in water and bears a coating (15'). The coating (15') is resistant to the effect of water at relatively low temperatures up to a limiting temperature and at higher temperatures has a structure which is detached under the effect of water and/or dissolves in water and/or is water-permeable. Relatively large amounts of water can thereby pass onto the labelled article without the label dissolving. Such dissolution is effected only by a temperature increase above the aforementioned limiting value, for example by hot water. These self-adhesive labels are suitable preferably for labelling beverage kegs, beverage and medicine bottles, glass and ceramic products and textile products from which they can be removed completely simply by washing in hot water. <IMAGE>
