1534697 Toy aeroplanes V E HEATH and C W HEATH 24 Feb 1976 [27 March 1975] 13124/75 Heading A6S [Also in Division B4] A model aircraft wing construction jig comprises an elongate front assembly rail 10 having a pair of longitudinally extending jaws and means for clampingly adjusting the jaws, a wing rib carrier rod 12 and a pair of end clamps 11 each having opposed jaws arranged to grip end portions of both the front assembly rail 10 and the carrier rod 12 so that the rod and rail lie in a common plane but at adjustable angle relative to each other. In use wing rib components 50 having an accurately located preformed hole 53 therein (Fig. 5) are threaded on the carrier rod and a flat strip of wood is clamped in the front assembly rail so as to provide a projecting tongue 46 of wood; then with the rail and rod clamped in the clamps 11 in the required configuration the wing rib components are adjusted to their correct relative positions, a notch 52 in the leading edge of each rib being engaged with the tongue 46 of wood. Assembly of the wing by bonding thereto edge and spar components &c. 60..63 and covering of the wing with sheeting can be continued in the conventional manner. The tongue 46 may be severed from the remainder of the clamped strip of wood to form a component of the wing structure. Intermediate ribs 50 can be sanded to finished size in the jig by means of a straight sanding rod 70 if the two endribs are accurately formed to size and used in effect as templates on which the rod 70 rests at its ends 71. The jig may be secured to a bench or baseboard. |
