This invention relates to an apparatus for tensioning fastening members, such as screw bolts provided with fixing nuts, and include a supporting frame for tensioning assemblies which can be set down on the screw bolts and each assembly has at least one cylinder with a piston sliding within the latter, which piston acts on a force transmitting element, such as a nut, which can be screwed down onto a screw bolt to be tensioned and means are provided on the supporting frame which serve to turn the fixing nuts on the screw bolts and the apparatus also comprises motor driven parts for rotating the force transmitting elements.
