For cleaning austenitic material surfaces, in particular by removing ferritic contaminations, a mixture of corundum and liquid is blown on. In order to be able to achieve the cleanliness required above all in the case of core shrouds in reactor construction, an appropriate thickness of material must be removed without covering up cracks or knocking in impurities into the surface. This is achieved in such a way that the corundum/liquid mixture has a corundum content of 40 to 90% by volume, that the gas pressure is between 2.5 and 5.5 atmospheres, that the mean grain size of the corundum fraction having a triangular habitus is between 0.2 and 0.6 mm and that rinsing fluid is applied to the blasted surface before the latter dries out. In this case, 0.8 to 3 kg of corundum particles are required for 100 cm<2>. |
