<p>A plastic material based on acrylonitrile is formed by adding a latex emulsion of a copolymer contg. 15-35 wt.% (methacrylonitrile and 65-85 wt.% of an alkyl (meth)acrylate (alkyl of 4-12C straight or branched-chain), to an emulsion contg. a mixt. of 60-80 wt.% of acrylonitrile and 20-0 wt.% of (m)ethyl (meth)acrylate, in an amt. sufficient to give a final prod. contg. 1-7% of alkyl (meth)acrylate. The bath is kept stirred at 50 degrees C until polymerisation is complete and the prod. is recovered. The prod. is readily extruded into films or moulded into hollow bodies ('barrier materials'), esp. transparent plastic packaging materials having good vapour permeability.</p> |
