The conductor rail is for the supply of electric current to movable consumer or load and comprises an aluminium core and a copper envelope around the core and is designed on the one hand to keep the amount of copper used to a minimum so as to keep costs down, and on the other hand to provide as long a working life of the rail as possible. Thus, the copper layer forming the sliding contact surface for the current consumer is made thicker than the residual copper layer formed around the aluminium core of the rail. More specif. the copper layer forming the sliding contact surface for the current consumer is made 3 to 5 times thicker than the residual copper layer. The copper envelope around the core is specif. applied to the aluminium core by means of extrusion presses.
