The rear bumper of the vehicle is provided with a mounting inside the bumper shell to secure the shaft of a towing hook. The mounting is covered by a sprung plate (7) held in place against the cut-out in the rear bumper, and pushed aside when the towing hook is fitted. The plate is used to protect the mounting when not in use. It also covers the unsightly mounting. The internal mounting spreads the towing force over the two mounting points of the rear bumper, thus reducing excessive concentrations of stress.
