The portable receiver, for reading texts intended for display on a normal television receiver, has a display surface in a pocket-sized casing (1). The casing also holds an HF/IF unit (2) with a demodulator, a text-signal decoder (4) with the drive circuitry for the display surface, and a transmitted text signal selector (8). The advantage lies in being able to read television text messages anywhere and not just where a bulky standard TV receiver is present.
