The thyristor switching circuit turns on and off with the aid of short control pulses. The thyristor is connected in paralle with a transistor circuit between the supply and the load. An energy source is connected in series with the transistor circuit. The energy source may be a capacitor or a transformer. The transistor circuit may consist of several series and/or parallel transistors instead of just a single transistor. The circuit ensures extinction of the thyristor even when the commutation circuit includes inductance.
