An ions flux intensifier for radioactive substances comprises a gas compressor with its discharge line connected to a selectively controlled humidifying and heating chamber; air or gas propelled by the compressor through this chamber enters a container in which radioactive substances are stacked in a series of compartments or shelves. The humidified and heated gas or air leaving the container then passes to a collecting vessel. Specifically, the air or gas can be recirculated through a gap and up through a sand bed at the bottom of the layers of substances. On leaving the radioactive substance chamber the air passes through a meandering labyrinth on its way to the collecting chamber. The process enables an ions flux to be amplified or intensified in a relatively economical and safe manner using relatively weak radioactive substances as the source material.
|
