Adjustable drive for mechanical press - has separate housings for flywheel and primary gearing and for clutch and secondary gearing

The drive for single and double acting mechanical presses allows rapid change-over to suit specific requirements. The motor (1) drives the flywheel on a shaft (4) via belts (2) and gearing (5) transmits the motion to the clutch shaft (7). The shaft supports the brake and an intermediate gear (9) meshes gears (10/11) with concentrics connected to the press slide by conrods (14/15). The primary gearing with the flywheel, and up to the intermediate gear (9), forms a separate unit in the housing (17). The secondary gearing including the layshafts and gears with eccentrics are fitted in the head of the press. Standardisation of the primary gearing simplifies manufacture and makes possible the selection of different drives.
