1533995 Carboxylated diene polymer oil reaction products DR KURT HERBERTS & CO GmbH 1 Dec 1975 [2 Dec 1974] 49219/75 Headings C3P and C3M Modified, water-soluble conjugated diene polymer oils are prepared by heating together (A) a reaction product of (i) anα,#-ethylenically unsaturated mono- and/or di-carboxylic acid or anhydride (which may be partly in ester, amide or imide form) and (ii) a mixture of 80- 99 parts by weight of a conjugated diene polymer oil free from carboxyl groups and having a mol. wt. of 500-2500, and 1-20 parts of a conjugated diene polymer oil free from carboxyl groups, a degraded rubber, a liquid butadiene copolymer and/or a readily soluble diolefin block copolymer having a mol. wt. of 4500 to 20,000; and (B) 3-15 parts (based on 100 parts by weight of A) of a conjugated diene polymer oil which is free from carboxyl groups, has not been reacted with an acid as defined above, and has a mol. wt. between those of the polymer components of mixture A (ii). The modified polymer products, after neutralization, are used as binders in aqueous coating compositions, particularly for electro-coating.
