1503099 Beverage-maker PYE (ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS) Ltd 6 May 1976 18610/76 Heading A4A [Also in Division B8] A beverage-making apparatus comprises a vessel 13 to contain a substance to be infused, a substantially sealed container 1 for water to be heated, a first tube having a first limb 8 which extends to near the bottom of the container and a second limb 10 directed outside the container, and a second tube 16 of smaller cross-sectional area than the first tube, the second tube extending from a point within the top of the container across and into the vessel 13. As shown, in an automatic tea-maker, the first tube provides for the discharge of boiling water from the kettle 1 into a tea-pot 13. The second tube 16 is a capillary tube extending within and coaxial with the second limb 10 and providing a small vent from a steam dome 17 under the kettle lid into the tea-pot so that the water is not discharged until it is boiled. A filling aperture 6 in the kettle lid is closed by a stopper 7 which is loose-fitting in the lid 3 at room temperature but which expands more than the lid as the kettle is heated so that it becomes tight fitting. The kettle is heated by an electric immersion heater (not shown) and the kettle lid 3 and its stopper 7 are of plastics materials. The kettle lid 3 may be secured to the kettle by a bayonet connection with an intermediate gasket 4. |
