1534329 Extrusion and cutting devices W H WILLEMSEN 26 Nov 1976 [2 Feb 1976] 49460/76 Heading B5A Potato sticks are made by extruding a potato flour based mixture through a die plate 1, attached to the lower end of a tank 9, by a piston 10. The extruded material is cut to length by a cutting means 11 moving across the lower face of the die plate. The die plate comprises a series of elongated apertures 6 defined by separating ribs 7 having recesses 8 which form ridges upon the extruded material. The ridges help prevent the sticks from sticking together during subsequent frying. The ribs taper from their undersurface to their uppersurface and it is preferred for the recesses to extend only over part of the thickness of the ribs. In order not to unduly weaken the ribs the recesses on one side of each rib are longitudinally offset from the recesses on the other side. |
