1534265 Seaming non-metallic sheet material KERRY ULTRASONICS Ltd 9 Feb 1976 [4 Dec 1974] 52338/74 Heading B5K Apparatus for ultrasonically welding together two thermoplastic parts 7, 8, e.g. two sheets or two flange parts, comprises an ultrasonic welding tool 1 having a working face 11 and an anvil 2 having a supporting face 10, the faces 11, 10 being formed with opposed projections and recesses. The term "ultrasonic" includes sound at the upper end of the audible range. As shown, the tool 1 has a central conical recess 3 surrounded by an annular recess 5 of lesser-depth and separated therefrom by a ridge 6 which may project beyond the face 11. The anvil 2 is correspondingly formed with a conical central projection 4 surrounded by an annular projection 9 of lesser height and separated therefrom by a trough 6a which may be recessed relative to the face 10. If desired, the pressure applied to the tool 1 may cause the projection 4 to perforate the parts 7, 8 but direct contact between the projection 4 and the recess 3 is prevented. |
