1534044 Double pivot mounting arrangements DAIMLER-BENZ AG 11 May 1976 [17 May 1975] 19419/76 Heading E2F A mounting arrangement for a component (particularly for pivotably mounting an emblem 1 on a vehicle body 2) comprises a ball 4 and socket 5 joint allowing movement about three mutually perpendicular axes and retained in a normal position by stop means (projections 7 and notches 8), and a further joint arranged between the component and the ball and socket joint allowing movement only about an axis parallel to the mounting surface; a spring 20 biassing the joints to return the component after any deflection. A lug 11 is received pivotally in a socket 10 of the ball 4 and is shaped so as to be able to pivot only forwardly; a web 16 projecting from the lug 11 through a slot 17 in the socket 10 to be engaged by the spring 20. Any rearward or sideways deflection of the component 1 is accommodated by the ball and socket joint but when the component receives a force urging it forwards the joint 10, 11 takes the initial deflection before the ball and socket joint moves. The socket 5 is shown as being an integral part of a mounting member 6 inserted into an aperture in vehicle body 2 and a member 28 which tensions the spring 20 has stamped out fingers 33 to snap engage grooves 34 on the socket. In a modified construction (Figs. 6-8 not shown), the socket 5 is formed separately from the member 6 and these two components are urged together by a compression spring through the centre of which the spring 20 extends. In this construction the member 28 is interlocked with a further member carrying the compression spring and the further member snap engages the mounting member 6. |
