An electrodeless lighting system using a microwave and a resonator thereof are provided to prevent local heating of an electrodeless bulb by disposing the electrodeless bulb in a direction of linear electric field. A microwave generator(121) generates microwaves, and a resonator(130) is disposed on an output side of the microwave generator, and shields leakage of microwaves to form a resonance mode therein. A cylindrical electrodeless bulb(145) has a fluorescent material excited by the microwaves, and is disposed in the resonator. The resonator has a resonator body(131) having an opened side to shield the microwaves and light, and a shielding member disposed in the opening region to shield leakage of microwaves while passing the light.
