A coated article having at least one layer applied by a PVD process or by a CVD process and at least one layer deposited by an ALD (atomic layer deposition) process. Further ALD and CVD/PVD layers may be deposited in various orders. Methods of depositing said layers are claimed as is an apparatus having a vacuum chamber capable of performing both ALD and CVD/PVD processes. A coated article having a coloured appearance formed by a transparent coating and particles selected to generate a selectable colour or hue by surface plasmon resonance is also claimed. |
