<p>A fibrous sheet material, which can be used to replace asbestos board, contains (i) 40-60 wt.% plant fibres, pref. recovered from old papers; (ii) 10-50 wt.% fine, non-binding, pref. mineral fillers of average size 50 mu, partic. 2-20 mu, e.g. diatoms or perlite prods., (iii) 10-30 wt.% (dry) binding agent which is a latex, pref. of an acrylic (co)polymer or styrenebutadiene copolymer. The material has similar physical and mechanical properties to those to asbestos board, and can be used e.g. as a support for making plastic ground coverings, or for making impervious joints.</p> |
