The device consists of an envelope under vacuum (1) contg. an electron gun (2) and a phosphor fluorescent coating (4) the lower surface (5) of which is made of aluminium and is conducting and optically reflecting. When the electrons bombard the fluorescent coating, light is emitted and transmited through the front face (6) of the envelope. A transparent electrode (7) inside the front face, influences the trajectories of the electrons. In front of the gun is a grid (8) to control the emission of electrodes. A very high voltage is applied to the aluminium surface (5) to attract the electrons emitted from the gun (2).
