The insertion apparatus has a gripper head (12) for holding the boring-in band. The gripper head (12) is carried by an axially displaceable insertion shaft (10). This shaft (10) is driven by an axially fixed hollow hub (18) enclosing it and, after running onto a limit switch (40), is caught in the correct angular position for the boring-in band by a positive-locking stop (30). The rotating positive-locking stop (30) sits on the hollow drive hub (18), and the fixed stop interacting with this positive-locking stop (30) is formed by a pneumatic latch (32) which is controlled by the limit switch (40). The latch (32) advances into the path of movement of the positive-locking stop (30) and ends the rotary movement of the insertion shaft (10) at an exact angle. <IMAGE>
