A molten metal surface level detection system has an ITV camera 12 at an appropriate place where it is neither thermally affected by the molten metal surface portion nor obstructs the site jobs and means for dividing the image on its monitor section 16 into picture elements by dividing it horizontally & vertically, means for selecting some of these elements at least one of which corresponds to the level, means for binary encoding each line element of the selected elements by comparing it with a reference & logic means for detecting the surface level from the binary signals 14. <IMAGE> |
