A vehicle sliding door comprises a guiding mechanism for its displacement which retains the door to the vehicle and consists of a four-arm hinged mechanism (or by a similar mechanism) of which the bar is the door, of which the lever is a carrier arm fixed to the door and to an attaching point of the vehicle and of which the other lever is a guiding element for the pivoting displacement of the door in relation to the carrier arm. The acting lever (12) of the guiding element must be, during the initial pivoting displacement of the carrier arm, at least during the opening of the door, adjustable by means of a driving piece (20, 21) seizing the guiding element during the pivoting of the door. Hereby, the sliding door works like a normal vehicle pivoting door during the initial phase of the opening motion, thus allowing to use the existing frames of pivoting doors for the sliding door of the invention and to mount easily the sliding door of the invention on sliding door vehicles.
