Equipment for manipulating wagons in an alignment track in a railway marshalling yard incorporates a conveyor appliance on rails with swivelling manipulator arms. This has drive and controls for movements to and fro. At the same time the equipment is fitted as an alignment track brake ddevice the brake arms (7) and conveyor arms (8) on the manipulator wagon (9), carried through from the brake sector (11) via the clearing conveyor sector (12). The controls (18, 22) in these sectors move the conveyor arms out and brake arms in, as required. Drive in one or both sectors acts with braking and conveyor effect for a prescribed delivery speed, otherwise just with a conveyor effect. This obviates the need for separate conveyor appliances, and facilitates accurate speed adjustment.
