The separator is for a pneumatic ring conveyor handling granular or powder material. It has a vertical housing with a cylindrical top part closed by a cover and a conical bottom one with a central outlet for the material. The inlet union from a conveyor tube discharges into the top part in the transverse direction, and there is an outlet union in the cover. The inlet union (20) discharges tangentially into the top part (16), while the outlet union (23) leads from the cover (22) in the direction of the swirl current thus induced, but at an angle not greater than 30 deg. to a plane perpendicular to the separator centre line (15). The centre distance from the latter to the outlet union in the radial direction is from 20 to 30% of the clear diameter (D) of the upper part (16) of the housing.
