Reversible drive shaft on model racing car - has changeover cage to retain forward drive after steering alteration

Model car for racing on a special track has a direct current operated drive motor (2, 3). The drive shaft (4) which carries the rotor (3) is connected to the front wheel steering layout by means of a clutch. Thus the car can be controlled such that it makes use of the full width of the race track. The rear end of the drive shaft (4) carries two pinion wheels (6, 8) which are in mesh and which are located inside a hinged cage (7). Each drive wheel half shaft has a crown wheel (10, 11) for transmitting the driving torque. When the rotation of the drive shaft is reversed in order to operate the steering, the pinion wheel cage changes its position so that always a forward drive is applied to the rear wheels (13, 14).
