Cutting control device in staple fibre cutting machines in which a rotary impeller is provided with peripherally spaced, radial cutting blades onto which the filament is laid in helical coils has the impeller associated with a signal generator to produce a pulse for each passing blade and a power input measuring device disposed in a housing and derived from the pressure sensed by a roller contacting the coils on the blades. Signals delivered by the generator and input measuring device are compared with one another and also with reference signals. Monitoring of the state of knives insures cutting of staple fibre of uniform length. Jamming of cutters and breaking of the latter is prevented.
