<p>The water cannon (2) comprises a cylinder bore (6) in which a floating piston (8) is movable between a chamber (12) for the liquid and a combustion chamber (28). The piston is driven by ignition of fuel in the combustion chamber and expels a high-velocity jet from the chamber which is filled before ignition takes place. Ignition is initiated by heat generated by adiabatic compression in the combustion chamber. The fuel charge may contain combustion gas residue which has not been exhausted. It may contain a gaseous fuel component and/or a liquid fuel component. The compression may be produced by a separate ignition piston (10) whilst the ejectors piston remains stationary.</p> |
