The surgical apparatus has a laser light source at the input end of a light conductor, whose output end has a collector lens. Clamping jaws (2, 3) of material impermeable to laser beams, compress the walls of a hollow organ (4) of a human being or animal from opposite sides along a line. A slide, also impermeable to laser beams (11), travels along a guide, and carries the outlet end of the light conductor (12) with collector lens (13). A slot is formed in one of the jaws along the line for the laser beam to reach the compressed organ, its walls reflecting the beam to a high degree. There is a groove in the other jaw opposite the slot, also reflecting and diffusing the beam. When the organ is compressed, the slot walls, groove and slide form a closed passage for the beam to its compressed part.
