The power unit has an in line engine with a transverse transmission in front of the engine. The drive shaft (1) from the engine passes through a clutch (2) and onto the input shaft (7) of the transmission via bevel gears. The power unit is compact and does not intrude into the passenger compartment. No transmission tunnel is required while the length of the gear box and differential can be the full width of the vehicle.
