1533421 Bearings B F GOODRICH CO 7 Jan 1976 [6 Feb 1975] 00498/76 Heading F2A A cylindrical liquid-lubricated bearing, e.g. for use in marine craft, comprises a plurality of elastomeric bearing portions separated by longitudinal lubricant passages, each portion being secured to a rigid support consisting of a fibrous component embedded in, and distributed evenly throughout, a vulcanized synthetic rubber. The fibrous component may be woven fabric and/or long or short cords, aligned or randomly-arranged, and is suitably of glass. In Fig. 1, bearing 10 comprises inner resilient vulcanized elastomeric annulus 12, providing bearing portions 14 separated by passages 16 which permit passage of, e.g. water, and outer shell 20 comprising fabric layers 22 in synthetic rubber 24. In Fig. 2, separate element comprising bearing portion 32 secured to composite backing strips 40 are embedded in slotted shell 44. The fibrous component is electrically non- conductive, and is non-corrodible by and non- shrinkable in the lubricant.
