<p>Zirconium and alloys thereof are quenched from the beta phase temperature range, i.e. at least 1830.degree.F., into water having a temperature of at least about 140.degree.F., whereby to inhibit the formation of a blocky alpha structure surface layer which ordinarily forms upon subsequent heating in the alpha temperature range.</p> |
