The formation of ice on marine structures, partic. on the parts in contact with the waves or with piped water is combatted by providing the parts with a covering layer which can be moved, so that the ice is easily released from it. The layer is easily removable from the parts to which it is attached either by hangers or by wrapping the layer round the parts. Pref. the layer is fitted to platform legs which can be jacked up and down, when they are jacked down. The layer comprises a body with a number of flexible walls, for pref. two, one of which is flexible, and a connection is provided for introducing a flowing medium which may be under pressure or not. The edges of the body are esp. fitted with stiff strips of metal by which it can be attached to a part of the structure, of which, being flexible it can assume the shape and contour. The edges of the flexible body may have eyelets for pegs, cables or cords by which they can be attached. Device eliminates the laborious handwork necessary to remove ice from vulnerable parts of the structure, such as the legs which need to be jacked up and down.
|
