摘要 <p>A trailer suspension system eliminating jackknifing of the towing tractor and trailer assembly, providing stability to the trailer and more efficient braking especially during emergency stops and materially increasing vehicle maneuverability. Steering control is provided by a connection with the towing tractor in laterally offset relation to the vertical pivot axis formed by the kingpin and fifth wheel articulate connection between the towing tractor and trailer. The steerable wheels in the trailer suspension are supported by a generally right angular spindle structure connected to walking beam assemblies for pivotal movement about generally vertical axes which are oriented forwardly of the horizontal axis or rotation of the steerable wheels with the spindle assemblies being interconnected by parallel, vertically spaced rods provided with universal connection with the spindle assemblies for maintaining proper orientation of the steerable wheels during their steering movement and during relative vertical movement. The trailer suspension includes independently and resiliently supported axle and spindle assemblies in the form of a two axle or three axle tandem assembly with the resilient independent support for the suspension axles effectively maintaining wheel contact with the ground surface for more effective braking and grater vehicle stability.</p>
